— Arthur G. “Art” Hobel, 91, of 1824 Hogue Road, Ellwood City, died the night of Jan. 10, 2006, in Ellwood City Hospital.
Born Sept. 28, 1914, in New Castle, he was a son of the late George and Ettie O. Bowden Hobel.
He married the former Anna E. Jaworsky on Jan. 15, 1938. She survives at home.
Mr. Hobel retired in 1979 from the New Castle Duntile Co., where he was a heavy equipment operator for more than 35 years.
He was a 55-year member of the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 66B.
Mr. Hobel served in the Army during World War II, from Dec. 29, 1943, to Nov. 9, 1945, in the 358th Engineer H&S Co., where he was a construction machine operator in the European, African and Middle Eastern theaters.
He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping.
Mr. Hobel was a member of Keys to the Kingdom Church.
In addition to his wife, survivors include three daughters, Dixie Harkless of Aiken, S.C., Ginger Hobel of Red Bluff, Calif., and Arlene Spiker of Savannah, Ga.; a brother, Ralph Hobel of Ellwood City; two sisters, Alice Cole of Ellwood City and Helen Pitsch of New Kensington, Pa.; nine grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Clair Hobel, and his sister, Shirley Michaels.
Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at the J. Bradley McGonigle Memorial Home, 111 W. Falls St. A service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at the memorial home. The Rev. Karl Moore will officiate. Burial will be in Unity Cemetery, Harlansburg. Military rites will be performed by the New Castle Area Veterans Honor Guard.
